Policy Work in Action
Policy change is a driving force behind Blue Zones Project transformation. Optimizing food, tobacco, and built-environment policy is a high-impact, cost-effective strategy to reduce chronic disease and improve well-being. While much of a healthy lifestyle is a result of personal choice, healthy changes on a policy level have a broad impact across the community.
Built Environment
Communities create Walking Maps
The City of St. Helena and Town of Yountville have partnered with Blue Zones Project Upper Napa Valley to create community walking maps. These maps will help connect community members and visitors with existing walking trails and paths, encouraging walking to destinations and for pleasure.
Food Systems
Committee creates food access resource
In partnership with Blue Zones Project Upper Napa Valley’s Food Policy Committee and the St. Helena Hospital Foundation, an Upper Napa Valley resource was created highlighting available food access points for community members experiencing food insecurity.
Tobacco Policy
Upper Napa Valley takes steps to limit tobacco smoke exposure
The City of Calistoga committed to adopting a smoke-free ordinance for multifamily housing properties as part of their updated Housing Element.
The Town of Yountville updated their Special Event Guidelines to ensure all events on town property are smoke free.
